BUSINESS

Bike Month: TWBC has given $1000 donation towards Bike month. Diane Wiatr has

suggested we have made 500 reflective slap bracelets with the TWBC logo for the

event. Bike Swap will be the 27th of April. Our donation assists with that endeavor.

Bob met with Diane Wiatr regarding an informational plaque discussed previously

commemorating early bicycling. The plaque would be located south of Holy Rosary

Church and on the west side of South G Street and would highlight pictures of the

bridge and cyclists around the turn of the century.

Bike Expo: Shall we continue with a booth. The cost is $500. Pros and cons were

bandied about, but the consensus was that the booth was worth the expense and effort.

Dan mentioned that while at Expo he spoke with representatives of the West Sound

Cycling Club and is hoping to arrange a “sister club ride” in the future.

Daffodil Musings: Discussion ensued on the exact rates decided for Daffodil and PMC.

They are: $30 pre registration

$35 day of registration

$50 combo pre registration

No family rates

Less $5 for club members

Under 18 years of age are free with a registering adult

Registrations received so far for the Daffodil are at 165 with 60 received for the PMC.

Bob has taken care of permits and insurance for the event.

Tom will be in charge of marking the courses.

Caroline will send reminder emails to volunteers.

Fred provided the treasurers report with income and expense sheets.

The next general meeting will be March 19 at the Portland Avenue Community Center

featuring John Selby’s bicycle trip to France.

Dena requested any newsworthy information for the COG.

Rich moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:30PM. Dan seconded the motion which

was carried unanimously.

Respectfully submitted,

Caroline Warnock,

Secretary

FEBRUARY 12, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by President Tom Reardon at 6:04PM at the Kim Ahn
Restaurant.
ROLL CALL
Present were President Tom Reardon, Treasurer Fred Swift, Ride Coordinator/
Webmaster Rich Walters,Special Events Coordinator Daniel Jones, Government
Relations Bob Myrick, Temporary Newsletter Editor Dena Wessels, and Secretary
Caroline Warnock.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the previous Board meeting were read by those present. Bob moved
that they be accepted as written; Rich seconded the motion. The motion carried
unanimously.
BUSINESS
Bike Expo will be Sat. and Sun. March 9 and 10. Most of the volunteer spots are
filled.Tom and Daniel will set up on Saturday morning. We discussed the items to have
available on the display table and the general booth setup. Volunteers will pick up their
entry bracelets at the Cascade booth do the right of general entrance as usual.
The Daffodil is fast approaching--April 14. Daniel described his plans for Subway
sandwiches at each rest stop as well as other regular fare. Beans and rice with or
without cornbread would be great if the high school volunteers would agree to heat and
serve it for a fee. Tom will contact the school cafeteria people about a fee schedule and
if they would be interested in a fee per person served. The Club would provide the food.
Volunteer slots remain open for a number of Daffodil positions. At next Tuesdays
General Meeting, vacancy sheets will be circulated.
Regarding the Peninsula Metric Century on June 2nd, Daniel is interested in trying a
Gran Fondo to be offered to a special group of people for an additional fee. This would
not be a race, but would offer a group start with police escort through Gig Harbor, and
individual start to finish timing. Daniel is investigating costs and other concerns.
The General Meeting will highlight “Riding In Winter,” a series of vignettes by TWBC
members who braved inclement weather having fun in the process. Fresh soup and
bread will warm our innards after listening to these chilly tales.
The Board decided that we would be willing to financially support the Tacoma Bike
Swap on April 27th but cannot volunteer members to help.
We are working on more training rides particularly on the weekends. Sue Coley is
organizing an every other Sunday morning ride for beginning distance enthusiasts, and
Bob is providing a ride on opposing Sundays.
Fred presented the updated version of the new club jersey prototype from Steve Lay
which was examined at some length. Caroline moved that the prototype be accepted by
the Board and presented to the General Meeting next Tuesday. Bob seconded the
motion which then was carried unanimously by the Board.
Fred delivered the Treasury Report. He noted that the bills from the banquet are mostly
in, and that it was expensive as expected. However the Club remains in excellent
financial condition.
At 7:49PM Rich moved that the meeting be adjourned; Caroline seconded the motion;
the Board approved and the meeting adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Caroline Warnock
Secretary

JANUARY 8, 2013
The meeting was called to order at 6:03PM by President Tom Reardon at the Kim Anh Restaurant.

ROLL CALL
Attending were president Tom Reardon, treasurer Fred Swift, government relations Bob Myrick, special events coordinator Daniel Jones, temporary newsletter editor Dena Wessels, ride coordinator/webmaster Rich Walters, vice president Joyce Clifford, secretary Caroline Warnock, and member Robert Deehan.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the previous minutes were read by all. Bob moved and Rich seconded that the minutes be accepted as submitted; the Board unanimously approved.

BUSINESS
All around discussion was had regarding raising the rates for the Daffodil ride resulting in Bob moving and Daniel seconding that all rates advance by $10.00 over last years fees. This results in the following: $30 pre-registration; $35 day of registration; $50 combination for Daffodil and PMC advance registration. There is a $5 reduction for members of TWBC. No family rate. 16 years and under ride free with a paying adult. This motion was approved by the Board.
Daniel is considering a change in rest stops from volunteer maned station to locally maned restaurant stops in some areas. More on this later.
Daniel is also hard at work inventing new ways to make the PMC ever more interesting.

The possibility of a Gran fondo within the PMC was considered, masticated, and
pronounced doable. A police escort through Gig Harbor for the initial enthusiastic and early participants can be accomplished. Fred reminds us this is Not a race, has rest stops, and therefore will qualify for our insurance. But the hook is that it will be Timed.

Bike Expo in Seattle is March 9 and 10 at Smith Cove, Pier 91. Volunteers for our booth will be solicited at the banquet January 26th.
Fred tells us that Bikes for Kids received 100 helmets for Christmas from TWBC. Fred listed our other donations for 2012 noting that our donations have increased considerably over past years with the Board’s intention of continuing this trend. A full Treasurer’s report was provided to all members.
Bob tells us that the Bud Blanchard Trail in Eatonville is expected to start construction this summer. Once they complete their work, TWBC will send our promised donation of $10,000.

Mark Berthune of Orting was offered $340. by Bob to assist with repainting the caution marking on the Orting Trail. Tacoma’s Diane Wiatr would like donations for signage/ plaques in the city. Bob would like to offer a donation for two plaques at approximately $200 each for the Scott Pierson Trail.
In addition Bob will be attending meetings with Forevergreen, and with the University Place and County Parks about Chambers/Leach Creek Trail.
The 10th anniversary of the Rhapsody Ride is this year. We wish to increase ridership from about 350 up to 500 bicyclists. Five clubs sponsor the event as a benefit for BAW.
There was no information on the new jersey design month.
The February 19th General Meeting will be about “Biking in the Winter” with winter foods to be served.
Caroline moved and Daniel seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 7:48PM. The motion was carried unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:48PM.
