Bicycling With Jack
Hart's Lake ride Sun. Nov. 16, 1975

A nice turnout of fifteen riders met at 180th and Pacific Ave. This was sec-
ond Sunday in a row that there were fifteen waterproof cyclists eager for a Nov-
ember afternoon ride. With an occasionél raindrop splashing down, and led py staunc
club supporter Frank Weldon, we headed out vast Roy Y and out the Hart's Lake Loop
road. Tnis route is basically flat, with only an occasional smali rise. We trav-
eled over open prairie, and past one rushing strean, Later past farms complete witl
their back--to--the--soil smells.

Topping a small rise, Alan Mobers shouted "There's a llama!" Sure enough, 2
genuine South American beast of burden, a liamal lan, being quite adventurous,
walked over and vetted the stranre animal which seemed quite friendly, in spite of
it's snapping teeth, which it had plenty of. You never know what you will see on
a bike ride,

With a bank of threatenine storm clouds, stretchine from horizon to horizon, and movine toward us, we pedaled on to to the town of Roy, reaching it just in time to take shelter in a coffee shop while leaving our bicycles under the canopy of a nearby closed sas station. We sat warm and comfy, sinpina coffee and nibbline soodies while tne storm raved outside with rain, hail and snow. I+ was soon over and we hastened on to get back before dark.

Just outside of Roy, while riding in the rear with Frank, I had a flat on my rear tire. After repairing that we proceeded on about a quarter mile and Frank had a flat rear tire. By the time it was repaired, darkness was approaching and with bike venerators humming, we hurried on. We hadn't sone three blocks when Frank had another flat tire! Still about seven miles out from the parking lot, Prank struezled in the mud and darkness trying to find the the leak. It was startine to rain again again when a most welcome Bob Dahlke in his pickup hove into sieht. We quickly loaded our bikes into his truck and rode back to the parking lot. Thanks Bob! Pollv Crook had a flat. Pat Branson had two, for a total of six flats for the trip, which is a Club ride record T hope will never be exceeded!
