Join the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club for some spectacular and diverse
scenery seen from atop your bicycle. View the mighty Columbia River bordered
by the sheer clifts and rolling hills of Oregon and Washington. On a clear
day the Columbia Gorge Scenic Hwy. offers sights of Mt. Hood, St. Helens,
Adams and Ranier.

This years League of American Wheelman (LAW) National Centuries’ 25, 50, and 100
mile loops feature many hills, smooth fast flats and exhilarating descents :
through lush grazing lands, green forests and the colorful countryside of the
changing fall season.

The 25 mile loop is more difficult than most % century routes, but your extra effort is amply rewarded with breathtaking vistas. The 50 and 100 mile loops include the Crown Point panorama, then winds down to the Sandy River, followed by "granny gear" climbs up to the town of Sandy.

What Should I Bring?
- $5.00 bill for entry fee entitling you to snacks, refreshments, a LAW patch
and a route map.

- Patch kit, spare inner tube, tire irons and pump, necessary on-the-road repair tools, 2 water bottles, camera, suntan lotion, sunglasses and raingear(?).

Where & When?
- Lewis & Clark State Park exit 18 off the I-84 "Banfield" freeway. Registration
starts at 5:30 am, riders off at Gam.

The course closes at Gpm. A sag vehicle will transport riders as needed. The
road will be marked with arrows.

46.61.760 Riding on bicycles. (1) A person propelling a bicycle shall

not ride other than upon or astride a permanent and regular seat attached

thereto. (2). No bicycle shall be used to carry more persons at one

time than the number for which it is designed and equipped. [1965 ex.s. c 155 § 81]

46.61.765 Clinging to vehicles. No person riding upon any bicycle, coaster, roller skates, sled or toy vehicle shall attach the same or himself to any vehicle upon a roadway. [1965 ex.s. c 155 g 82.]

46.61.770 Riding on roadways and bicycle paths. (1) Every person
operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side
of the roadway as practicable and may utilize the shoulder of the
roadway or any. specially designated bicycle lane if such exists,
exercising due care when passing a-standing vehicle or one proceeding
in the same direction.

(2) Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than
two abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the
exclusive use of bicycles.

(3) Whereever a usable path for bicycles has been provided adjacent
to a roadway, bicycle riders shall use such path and shall not use the
roadway. [1974 ex.s. c 141 s 14; 1965 ex.s. c 155 s 83.]

46.61.775 Carrying articles. No person operating a bicycle shall carry any package, bundle or article which prevents the driver from keeping at least one hand upon the handle bars. [1965 ex.s. c 155 § 84.]

46.61.780 Lamps and other equipment on bicycles. (1) Every bicyle when “in use during the hours of darkness as defined in RCW 46.37.020 shall be equipped with a lamp on the front which shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front and with a red reflector on the rear of a type approved by the state commission on equipment which shall be visible from all distances from one hundred feet to six hundred feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful lower beams of head lamps on a motor vehicle. A lamp emitting a red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear may be used in addition to the red reflector.

(2) Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake which will enable
the operator to make the braked wheels skid on dry, level, heen pavement.

WEEKEND ADVENTURE TO VICTORIA B.C. & &
August 21-22

Come join us as we board the Princess Margeriett for a weekend adventure to Victoria. The date is August 21, 22. We will leave Seattle at 8:00 AM on the 21st and arrive

in Canada at 12:15 PM. The Princess is an adventure in itself, but Victoria is a gas. For a mere price of $60.00 per person, you will receive: Rountrip passage on the Princess Margeriett, hotel room for Saturday night, breakfast on Sunday morning, and

a real fun time. There is a limit of 30 people and your money has to be to us by
August lst. Club members and guests have first choice - so hurry.
