It goes without saying that
this has been one of the best
summers in recent history,
especially for those of us who
spend a lot of time outdoors. As
our Arizona type weather wanes with

the change of seasons, cutting down
on riding time, many of us will
have some free time on our hands.

September is an extremely important

ours. We must make a lot of plans
for upcoming events to ensure their
success.

Baja for Christmas

for a 1065 mile tour of the baja?
I?m planning an going and thought
that maybe the following just might
appeal to some of you.

The Lith annual BAJA CHRISTMAS ADVENTURE will leave from Tecate on December Zist, 1985 for a i9 day 1065 mile bicycle tour of the Baja Feninsula. The tour costs $220 to cover the motels and campsites, but no support vehicle will be provided. The longest day i6 122 miles and the shortest is 44 averaging 75 miles.

NORTHWEST BICYCLE TOURING SOCIETY WILL HOST CENTURY RIDE IN MOUNT VERNON, WASHINGTON ON SEPTEMBER 8, 1985

For the 17th consecutive year Northwest Bicycle Touring Society will host a bicycle weekend in Mt. Vernon, Wa. This event, Sponsored by NBTS and sanctioned by the League of American Wheelmen, will be a complete weekend planned for the entire family with rides on Saturday and’ Sunday, September 7 and 8.

A Chuckwagon will be available for purchasing food on Sunday.
Sundays ride will have free snacks available for all riders
that are officialy registered.

Saturday's ride, which is free, can be riden anytime after 10:00am.
The ride will follow a flat, scenic, well-marked route to the

quaint, waterfront town of LaConner, Wa. a total distance (roundtrip)
of 18 miles. This is a liesurely ride to enjoy a family activity
with no time limit involved.

Sunday's ride is the official Century/Half-Century ride which
follows a 50 mile flat level loop through the Samish valley.
Riders can start anytime during course hours. Course hours are
from 7:00am to 7:00pm. To qualify for a patch you must complete
100 miles in 12 hours or less, or 50 miles in 6 hours or less.
Those that qualify will receive the L.A.W. Century/Half-Century
patch.

All riders start from the Skagit-County Fairgrounds in Mt. Vernon. Take I-5 exit #226 (Kincaid-City Center). Go West over the railroad tracks to the third stop light, then south (left)

6 blocks to Hazel Street.

Overnight camping is available at Fairgrounds and is Free with
advance registeration. Regular charge is $5.00 per vehicle.
The Campground is an extremely large area and includes FREE
shower facilities.

Advance registration is $5.00 and includes overnight camping.
Registration on Sunday, Sept. 8 is $6.00. All fees included
snacks and patch. Patches and a compiled list of qualified
riders along with the elasped riding time, are mailed
approximately 3-4 weeks after the ride.

NOTE: This is an excellent ride. Some of us are going up on
Seturday evening to camp at the fairgrounds. Come and help

The first annual Spokes Feople
Against Cancer event was held on
July 27 & 28 and attracted riders
from Seattle a5 Cy Bremerton,
including 9 members of our own
Tacoma Wheelmens Club. me

Early Saturday morning it was "all aboard Amtrak" for a Picturesque hour long journey to Centralia. The conductor welcomed us over the loudspeaker and informed the other passengers of the cycling crusade against cancer by "those people wearing the funny shorts".

After a 60 mile bicycle ride

Fuget Sound, the swimming pool at
the motel in Tumwater was a welcome

Building. After climbing 247 steps
Up Aa Marrow spiral staircase we

discovered a heautiful panoramic

that stair climbing uses different
muscles than bicycling!).

The weekend was highlighted by
a4 hour scenic cruise back ta
Tacoma on a chartered boat from the
Fort of Olympia. Following dinner,
