In fact I got my first bike with gears only two years ago. In January I received a flyer from the American Lung Association of Washington describing a supported bicycle trip from Seattle to Washington DC. The trip would take only 48 days including 8 rest days. They would supply the route maps, meals on the riding days and a nice place to camp with showers; all I had to do was raise $5500 in pledges.
