There is no T W C Club ride scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14, we are all going to Mt. Vernon to ride the Northwest Century. Ride starts 7 AM at Skagit Co. Fairgrounds, 50-mi. loop Skagit-Samish flats. There is a $3.00 fee for LAW members, $3.50 for non-members, Fee includes a box lunch and Century or half- century patch. Call Steve Newton for additional information.

Our own T WC First Annual Century Ride will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12. Ride is a 50 mile loop starting at Yelm. Ride it once for Half-Century, twice around for Century. Patches given on completion of ride. No lunch provided,

but food available in Yelm.

RACING: Training Rides every Mon., Wed. & Fri.
Evening starting at 6 PM from "The Bike Route",
9836 Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood. These are
hard, fast conditioning rides led by Gary
Singleton.

MEETINGS: Third Wednesday each month.
Place- Swasey Library, 7001-6th Ave.
Time- 7:30 PM
Dues- $3:00 per individual

Haven Lake Ride, Sunday, July 27. Fifty eager and gung-ho riders left the parking
lot at Swasey Library at 7 AM. There was practically no traffic at that hour, and
we were able to ride on the roadway across the Narrows Bridge. One of our guest
riders, Vernetta Carr took a tumble off her bike at the expansion joints and skinned
up her leg, but she regained her composure ami bravely carried on. Bicyclists are
a hardy lot.

Our route led out Highway 16 past Purdy and Port Orchard. This is an ideal stretch of roadway to cycle, with a nice shoulder to ride on, fairly free of glass and debris. Great scavenger picking, too. I stopped so often to examine interesting items in the ditch that Virginia Stratton became annoyed and announced that she was going to ride ahead of me from then on because I was getting all the good stuff.

At the Lake there were about 60 to 65 people. I never could get them to stand
still long enough to get a true head count. The afternoon was filled with swimming,
water skiing, guzzling, and gorging on fried chicken, hot dogs, salads- you name it,
Virginia had it.

Carl Schoonhaven forget he had his glasses on while water skiine and lost them about 20 feet off the end of the dock in deep water. After frantic searching and diving, they were miraculously found by Pat Stratton, Who triumphantly brought them up from the murky depths. Good man to have around in case you drop something over- board. Carl was truly grateful and entertained us with witty stories and comments while we lolled in the sun munching our fried chicken and other goodies.

This was the largest turn.out and greatest day the club has had. The credit
goes to Virginia and Eldon Stratton, Steve Newton, Alan Moberg and others who helped
make this such a wonderful day.
