Our Thureday night rides have ended for this sumer. They were all such fun

4il were woll attended with an average of 15 to 20 riders each night. fhe rides
covered ell parts of Tacoma. Point Defiance, Parklend, Day Island, Lakewood,.
and Downtown. :

One perticarly interesting ride, led by Virginia Stratton, went to Waughop Leake. Out from the lake we went up.a dirt road to a huge deserted thee story building on top of the hill overlooking Western State Hospital. his abandoned structure was once part of the old Steilacoom Insane Asylum. Riding around the structure I saw that it was far larger than it first appeared, with several wings and entrances. Looking through the barred windows et a tangle of rusted cots in- side, I could only wonder at what onse went on here in their hundreds of rooms. What faces peered out their windows and what hands clutched their bars.

There was a somber oppressive feeling in the air and I noticed that people didn't tarry long, but hastened back on down to the leke. We all rede around, the ghostly old building was soon forgotten.

This was a very interesting ride and I hope Virginia leads it again. May~ be a little Saturday or Sunday ride out there later this fall.

The largest turn out was on thursday Aug. 12, when 27 showed up at Swasey

The past four years it has rained at this race and this year it
wasnt any different.

It started to rain when Steve Miller was in his race. He took 3rd. In our race Happy called it quits halfway through, because of all the wrecks that were happening. I ended up in 6th, but also took 3rd in three primes. Steve took 3rd in two of the primes in his race.
