At this month's general meeting, August 19, 7:30 pm at Fircrest Community Center which is located at 555 Contra Costa in Fircrest there will be a presentation on a proposed by laws change to simplify club structure in order to allow the club to exist, primarily asa competitively oriented club, Time for discussion and comment will follow presentation. Notes From Your Bicycle Coordinator

Summer was great! Our family and school friends have been in and out of town on bike trips first to the San Juans and then on a great trip to Ross Lake. We'll try to have a run down in the text edition of "The Wheelman". Yes and one thin we did learn is that the road to Darrington needs heip! :

Most recently bicycle coordinators from throughout the
state met to review and have "official input" on the State
Transportation Plan. I'll leave a copy with Gary Singleton
so that all of us can take a good look. Additionally, we'll
bring it to our next meeting August 19. I've included a sum-
mary of the proposals many of us want to push with the WSDOT.

1. freeway shoulder use for bicyclists should

be allowed on; I-90 from North Bend to Cle Elum,
I-90 through Moses Lake, £90 from Vantage to George
I-405 from Renton Maycreek to Bellevue, Newport.
1-82 Selah Gap, I-90 Cheney to Sprague extend
hours of operation to year around

2. WSDOT shoulda revise the Design Manual facility and design standards for bicycle facilities.

3. Revitalization of the Bicycle Coordinators office to be a bicycle advocate and plan and technical review as well as assisting the local governments.

4. Rate study on bicyele ferry Pares*to relate
cost with service

5. Change WSDOT bicycle money program to also fund
safety and training programs.

6. State Transportation plan should consider alternate funding programs for bicycle facilities. Considering bicycle needs include showers, lockers and mostly cities or counties streets and roads.

7. WDSO’ should establish a bicycle advisory
board.

A short note to WSDO" urging support for these revisions
will help. Let's give it a good shot. Our fellow bicyclists
around the state are being urged to give these revisions a
big push. Let's see if we can join our voices now for bicycling

Northwest Bicycle Conference
On a less urgent note another first for bicyclists is

being put together for October 9-11. Cascade Bicycle Club and Bicycle Forum are sponsoring 1981 Bicycle Conference in Leavenworth. this will be a regional get together of all Bicycle activists, club leaders, program coordinators pro- fessionals, government officials and bicycle trandspeople. Sounds like everybody doesn't it? I'll post this information with sary Singleton so I'd like to see our club strongly represented. We hope to make this the kind of gathering that will unite the bicycling community and make us a force to be recond with in the 80's! ‘There is still much planning done so if you have workshop topics or want to be a leader contact me Om:

Tacoma Bikeways Revision
Update on Bikeways plan for tacoma.

Harvey Lister and I have finished collecting all your bike
routes! there were a lot. We are planning a meeting to form-
ulate a proposal to the Public Works Department. “here will
pe a Pot-luck at my house for those intrested on Wednesday
August 12, at 6:30 pm. We hope that those of you who have
expressed intrest in this revision of the Tacoma Bikeways will
attend and give us your good ideas and labor. Call me for
