This should be of interest to some of the video game addicts among us. For $39.95 you can get an 'flerobics Joystick" home adapter that links an Atari or Sears video game system to almost any stationary bicycle. With the "Aerobics Joystick" you can exercise and play your favorite video game at the same time. To start your game, you simply push your pedals and the faster you go, the faster your missiles fire or the faster your video race car goes. What a neat gift for the cyclist who has every- thing!

Who would be crazy enough to get up at 5:30 in the morning; drive all the way to Seattle; spend all kinds of money on hotels, restaurants, train fares, etc., just for the privilege of riding their bicycle 200 miles to Portland, Oregon? That's what I was wondering at 5:30 in the morning on June 24th as I was getting prepared for the drive to Seattle. The ride was sponsored by the Cascade Club and drew approximately 1,000 dedicated cyclists from all over. (I met two cyclists while I was recuperating in a bar in Portland who had flown all the way from Chicago just to ride in STP.)

What was the big attraction that gathered so many people? It certainly wasn't that nice hill coming out of Puyallup (no, I wasn't smiling!), nor the

logging truck that came so close at one point I could feel the heat of its
engine, or the infamous Longview bridge, or the near exhaustion felt the last
10 miles (who am I kidding—the last 50 miles) of the ride. It must have been
the excitement generated by so many people at the starting line of embarking
on a challenging experience; or the beautiful scenery; the camaraderie and
friendliness among the participants; the sense of overwhelming accomplishment;
and last but not least, the greatest tasting ice cream cone ever at the finish
line in Portland,

Will I do it again next year? Do you think I'm crazy—of course I will!!!

There will be a catered picnic dinner, swimming, and a lot of fun. This event is free to Club members and guests are welcome at a cost of $4. We hope to see everyone there.

The August 14th ride starting at Southcenter will be basically flat and ata slow and easy pace with a stop in Kent for lunch, The purpose of this ride is to encourage parents to get out and ride with their children and to provide an opportunity to meet other people who are interested in cycling as a family. Everyone is welcome, especially the beginning cyclist (you don't need to be accompanied by a kid to attend). This ride is being co-led by members of the Cascade Club in Seattle.
