In the newsletter it said, "A camping trip to Millersylvania State Park". Ten People thought it sounded good enough to try. Although it rained the entire week before, hopes were high that the weather would be nice. Saturday when we started we weren't disappointed, the streets were dry. So we headed south in search of the sun. We had pleanty of time to get there, so we rode at.a very leisurly Pace. At Rainier we stopped for lunch and groceries. Since Jeff was Kind enough to bring the sagwagon, we could buy anything we wanted including a gallon of milk and a tuo pound steak. The sun came out and we went on to the park. This is when the educational part of the trip started. Firewood is always hard to find in parks, right! Not here. The Ranger gave us permission to take wood from a 2 cord stack. After using all the paper we could find (Cincluding the maps), pouring white gas on the wood, and fanning the sparks for two hours, we decided that vou get what you pay for and since we didn't pay for the wood it probably shouldn't burn. One member is a real nature lover. Since it was still winter, he bought a racoon a whole large box of cereal. The next lesson was only funny to the 7 people who didn't learn it. In order to Keep their tents clean they left their middy shoes outside. At 3:@@am the shoes were transformed into rain gauges. That gave the next day a real warming start. Everyone ate breakfast fast because of the rain. Time to load up the bikes brought up another mistake you don't want to happen. Don't lock your bike with a lock that you don't have a Key for! The Boy Scouts came to the rescue with some cable cutters and we were on our way home. Be prepared! The rain down south is just as wet as it is here. After 14 miles of rain we stopped at Uncle Dan's Store. One member was in the begining stages of hypothermia and desperately needed the use of the heater that the owners so Kindly gave us. Half of the group stayed here and got a ride home rom the stere cuner who just happened to be going to the Tacoma Mall. The rest “of the day was uneventful as we happily swam home. Many lessons were hard learned en this trip, maybe you can learn them from reading this. Good Tuck and good camping.

The final meeting for the Peninsula Metric Committee will be on Satur- day, May 12th, 7:30pm at Joe Schaller's home, 616 North 3rd #6. Much effort by a few dedicated and creative committee members has been invest- ed in the preliminaries of organizing a successful ride. However, we are still in need of people who would be willing to staff a checkpoint, work at the registration desk, etc. If you have the time please attend this important meeting and volunteer your help.

J WHAT WHERE AND WHEN On June 9 ana 10, 1984, the Tacoma Wheelmen's Club is sponsoring the 2nd annual PENINSULA METRIC, a bicycle tour starting and ending at Southworth Ferry Terminal. The course will be open Sunday, June 10th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The PENINSULA METRIC is a 20, 50, and 100 km course containing both flat and rolling terrain and offering views of forests, farms, and the beautiful Puget Sound. Those inclined towards photography are encouraged to bring a camera and plenty of film as this area provides an endless array of photographic possibilities.

This year, camping arrangments have been made for Saturday, June 9th, for those who want to spend more time enjoying this beautiful part of our State. You must bring your own camping gear and food (there is a store near the park). There will be registration and check-in at the ferry terminal parking area between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 9th for all overnight campers. You may arrive at your leisure at Kopachuck, which is half way through the 100 km course. The second half of the course can be completed on June 10, 19384.

REG ISTRATION
Pre-register and save $1.00 Pre-registrations must be received by May 25, i984.
Registrations will also be taken on June 9 and 10, 1984. The fee includes a
custom patch, light refreshments, and an excellent new map. (Please add $1.00 to

the registration fee for use of a campsite.) To pre-register, please send the e+tachea form to: TACOMA WHEELMEN'S CLUB, P. O. Box 99555, Tacoma, WA 98499.

A sagwagon will be circling the course repeatedly throughout the day on Sunday to give assistance to cyclists who require it.

There will be light refreshments at the checkpoints on June 10th and there are many restaurants and stores in Gig Harbor and Port Orchard.
