Well, I'm back from vacation with my friend The Newsletter Editor ~ (She drags me with her everywhere!) and what views they were: The Astoria Toll Bridge; Cannon Beach; Seal Rock; Boilermaker's Cove; Depoe Bay; the Dunes at Florence; the Kites at Lincoln Beach; ‘the Lava Beds; the Sis- ters; Picture Gorge; the YMCA at Baker; Lower Hell's Canyon; the Snake River; Boise's Green Belt; Payette River Canyon; Smith's Ferry; Salmon River; Seven Devil's Mts; Pend Orielle River and Lake; Sandpoint; the beach at Priest Lake; Curlew Lake; Lake Omak; Ladder Falls and the Rock Gardens at Newhalem; the Richland, White Bird and Lewiston Grades & HOME!

The worst parts were: Navigating through road repairs -weaving our way through dump trucks, rock crushers, logging trucks, chicken trucks, & two- lane wide fresh oil mats; Picking our way through dust and/or mud puddles where the road was being graded down to bed rock/dirt; Being stranded in Boise in 100 degree heat; Sitting at Oxbow Dam with a split tire, waiting for a ride to a town with a bike shop; the 25 mile approach to Sherman Pass. ae

The best parts were: Someone taking us home with them (we ‘lucked out three times!); Swimming at Lake Omak with a member of the Dirty Beaver Jug Band from Auburn; Eating Dairy Queen ice cream cones for two friends in South africa; Sleeping in the back of a pick-up and a $10 loan by some campers at Curlew Lake; Watching river rafters on the Skagit River and wishing we were doing it, too; Beachcombing for agates and running on the Lincoln City sand (my ideat); Letting several men take us home with them for dinner (TNE's idea!). : ~

Along the way we lost: A pair of cycling socks; one tire pump; one table knife; one tent stake; one T-shirt; one cookset pan; one cushion (mine); one towel (mine); and 5 lbs. (TNE'S). :

Along the way we found: Two bath towels; _one hand towel; two shirts

(neither of which fit me); one serewdriver; the best molasses cookies I have ever eaten; “Oregon Nickels"; 23¢in road money; A new baby girl

named Theresa Lumina; The nicest people you'd ever want to meet!

The most interesting experiences were: Sleeping out “in an allnaight
electrical storm; Losing the chain, freewheel and derailleur on TNE's
pike, all at the same time -with only one bike Shop between us and Sedro- |
Wooley, 350 miles away,

After all our experiences, do you know what she (TNE) said to me the other day? "Next year I think we'll go cross-country."

Boy, I can hardly wait. (?)
