Bob Myrick reports he has sucessfully sent his CATEYE UNIT To Japan for repair on two occasions; once under warranty and once out of warranty. Even though Bob offered to pay for repairs the second time, nothing was charged. He sent his warranty card each time. Each time a very courteous and hélpful letter was sent back with unit.

Throughout the year, TWC rec- eives money from many people for many purposes (eg., dues Daffodil, shirts). Several volunteers are in- volved in keeping track of who paid for what. To assist these kind folk, include the proper registra- tion or application form (or a statement on a separate piece of paper) with your payment. This way, the money can go to whoever is keep- ing track of who paid for what. To encourage your eGonetetion, TWC has adopted this policy:
POLICY: Any monies sent to TWC without appropriate peperwork will be deposited and considered a con- tribution to the Club. Any monie handec to the Treasurer without ae ropriate paperwork will be pocketed and considered a contribution to the ireasurer.

k5th Annual ***
The 1987 Trek season for the American Lung Association of Washington is underway. The first Tri-Island International Bicycle Trek will take place the weekend of June 13-15, 1987 and is a terrific way to start your summer. This fund raising event includes three days of bicycling at your own pace through the San Juans to Victoria. You don't need lots of experience and the 135 mile ride is fun and challenging for both beginning and experienced cyclists. Information meetings to answer all your questions are scheduled on the following dates from 7-9 p.m.

Ah, Spring--well, not yet but it's getting close. It's time for the equip- mest junkies to buy a few magazines which oa to test ANYTHING that's brand new, time for the tourist types to get out the seam sealer, the young racers to change their glue and the old racers to get feisty; It's time for all Of “us to. gét the trusty iron or aluminum out of the basement and onto the roads. OH GLORIOUS DAY! For Some of us the road should lead directly to a bike shop for a tune-up and safety-check, but the rest of us can go straight to Point Defiance and impress the other rabbits, squirrels and slugs with our lycra and speed.
While we are in the act of being
impressive, let us not forget one of
lifes most basic lessons: PAIN HURTS,
PAIN IS MEAN AND NASTY, ance in most of
its manifestations it is a nusiance and
should be avoided. Sore muscles aren't
much fun, abrasions and concussions are
especially unpleasant and should be avoid-
eq altogether. The only good thing about
pain is that most of it can be avoided
with a little forethought and care. You
don't like being rudley awakened at 4:00
#Y “oy a loud alarm clock and your hams
a. . quads won't take kindly to. being
forced out of hibernation by a spirited
50 miler on a cold wet day. If you don't
think you're quite ready for a six hour
Century, you're probably right.
Remember, Water is a.pretty fair lubricant if used properly. I know a man who fell and slid 75 feet on a paved road and another 25 feet on the gravel should- er just after he let something wet get bétween his tire and the road. Our hero suffered lots of scrapes and scratches but to his credit he was wearing an ANSI
“approved hard shell helmet and now, with-
out losing his train of thought in the
middle of a compound, complex sentence
and without a speech impediment he will
encourage you to wear one too. Not every
ecresh victim-can do that.
Yes, Spring is almost here and its
time to tune up the bike and the body and
get out for the next club ride. -Just be
careful, go a little slow and wear a hel-
met because I'd like to see you healthy
anc up on two wheels all summer long.
-Ray Maines
The Bicycle Federation of Washington ha
issued an URGENT ACTION ALERT regarding ti
issues.
Please support SENATE BILL 5421 which would create and fund a bicycle safety program in the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. This program is urgently needed due to the increasing number of bicycle accidents in the state. The program will provide educational materials and leadership in educating the public about bicycles on the road.
The second issue is of great interest t those living in Pierce County. There are two identical bills, SENATE BILL 5147 and HOUSE BILL 286 attempting to repeal the Rails to Trails Law. This was tried last year and our efforts helped defeat this attempt to rob us of some potentially fantastic trail riding. Unfortunately, ke legislators support these bills. As you read this, Pierce County is considering a Stretch of Burlington Northern Right of wa for just such a trail, as Dr. Ernest Bay showed us at the January meeting. If everyone who reads this calls or writes, Pierce County should be well represented.
We must act NOW! It takes about a minut
to call 1-800-562-6000, which is the
Legislative Hotline, and tell the operator
you SUPPORT SENATE BILL 5421 and OPPOSE
SENATE BILL 5147 AND HOUSE BILL 286. It's
easier than ordering a Pizza! If you have more time, sit down and write a letter to your legislator. When they get all those calls and letters it will make the legislature know the BFW is supported. Thi will make the BFW's next job that much easier. Send letters to "Senator" or "Representative =", State Capitol, Olympia, WA, 98504. If you don't know the name of your legislator, just call the county courthouse. They can tell you. Write it in your address book.
