It is time to start thinking about
1988.

The Tacoma Wheelmen's Club elections
are scheduled for the November meeting.
Between now and the October meeting the
nominating committee will be looking for
a few good men and women.

If you would like to take your turn
at the lead or if you are feeling guilty
about "doing your fair share", now is the
time to step forward. We are looking for
people interested in president, vice pres-—
ident, secretary, and treasurer.

We all can be proud of the club to
which we belong. But, it is only be-
cause a few good men and women have step-
ped forward...MAYBE it's your time.

From the humble beginnings of a bike safety slide show donated by the Cascade club of Seattle, through our successful fundraising sales of Bike Washington T- shirts, the Wheelmen have become more in- volved in educating cyclists and the gen- eral public on the bicycle related issues. We have spoken to civic groups, school groups, and community groups. We have assisted in planning and putting on bike rodeos. We have expanded the safety slide show, and are planning additional slide shows. We have purchased a Bike Rodeo Kit, and a generous supply of book- lets and brochures related to bicycle safety. We regularly receive phone calls from groups needing information, help or volunteers.

We have a wealth of ideas for future projects geared toward improving cycling and educating the public. We do not how- ever have a wealth of active volunteers! Anyone willing to spend a little time and energy to help our cause is welcome-for more information call Diane Lister 752- 8636.

The board has decided to cancel the Turkey Chase scheduled for November 8th. ‘There were two primary reasons for this action: (1) our arrangements with the 7-Eleven Stores (which we thought were firm) began to fall apart, and (2) we didn't get anybody to step forward to drive the event preparations. :

The Turkey Chase was a great idea, but it
takes human resources to convert ideas into
action...maybe next year.

On the weekend of October 10 and llth., we
are planning an overnight camping ride.

Final arrangements are not complete, but we will have shelter from the Weaver Hove Sele = urday night camping. At present. we're plan-

ning to do the Kanaskat-Palmer near Cumberland.

However, this could change.
The mileage will be approximately 35 miles

per day.

If you are interested, please give me a call, since we may have to limit the number of riders )

to 10-12.

Most of us have heard about the four cyclists who were struck and killed by a young woman in California, but few realize that the four were among over one thousand cyclists killed each year in the Unite States.
