If you have a personal computer, then you can talk about bicycles and bicycle riding nation wide. Bulletin board systems provide a long distance telephone number and an on-line mailbox. This allows you to look at messages that others have left there, and you can leave messages for others to read.

Some of these bulletin board system
feature a mailbox devoted to cycling. If
this sounds like the ultimate trip, then

The youth hostel requires the use of a
sleeper sack. Sleeping bags are not
allowed. You can rent a sleeper sack for
$2.00 at the Seattle hostel.

You can make your own sleeper sack. If
you are larger than a midget, you might
find the homemade model more comfortable.
I have made one out of a queen size sheet
90 x 120.

The diagram below shows you the dimensions. Note that the pillow section is s€wn to the bottom section of the sleep sack. Also the up side of the sack is SEWN up to about 37 inches, then we used a couple of ties at say 48 and 58 inches to complete the job. We also cut down the closed side about 20 inches -- this seems to have worked out quite well. If you have questions, give us a call.

Transportation 2020 will be held

It's great to be a bicyclist!!
Once you've made friends through
bicycling,you really have true
friendship that lasts a life-
time. This was proven to me
during my recent 53 week stay

at Tacoma General Hospital. I
was visited many times by indi-
vidual members Of the TWBC as
well as about 15-20 members on

a breakfast ride to Wright Park
and also by members on the after-
noon Christmas ride. Sue Davis
made me her special project with
many phone calls,personal visits
and prayers.

Transportation 2020 is a large scale
planning project. It is intended to
answer the question: What do we do now
that the interstate highway system is
completed? :

Public forums are being held in each ef the 50 states. These are sponsored by the department of transportation and the Highway Users Federation, in cooperation with the Advisory Committee on Highway Policy of the 2020 Consensus Transportation Program.

The majority of Advisory Committee members are clearly business organizations. They have an interest in building more, bigger highways. User groups are a minority. Non-automotive user groups are a very small minority. Bicyclists have an important perspective that needs to be included in this process.

It should be noted that bicyclists

qauere not originally invited to varticipate in this program. Only after the folks at the Bicycle Federation or Awerica in Washington DC heard about it and requested participation did we cecome a member. Bicycling was not considered a significant form of transportation.

This makes it especially important for bicyclists to get involved. We need to demonstrate with accurate information that bicycling is an important form of transportation in our nation’s future. And we need to demonstrate by our numbers that bicyclists are organized and able to be part of planning and : e lobbying efforts. g BICYCLE USA News

RAILS-TO-TRAILS SPECIAL ALFRT: The Washington RIC recently sent out an Action Alert to
its members concerning the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) policy
on trails and paths. :

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Write to the Washington State Transportation Commission and WSDOT to urge that WSDOT policy regarding the expenditure of RCW 47.30 funds be more liberally practiced as it applies to independent trail facilities.

Urge that RCW 47.30 funds be used to purchase abandoned railroad rights-of-way, where available, to provide multipurpose trails buffered from motorized traffic. Advocate that WSDOT establish a separate account for the exclusive use of trail facilities.
