A costume ride will leave at 12:00 noon on October 29th from Steve and Phyllis’ house, and will cover approximately twenty miles as we parade around the streets of Tacoma. Be on time or your bike may turn into a pumpkin! Please make sure you can ride :

Club miles add up ta something special at our Annual Club Banquet. So list all your club miles on your Ride Log and send it in by Nov. 4, 1989 to TWC Ride Logs, PO Box 99555, Tacoma, WA 98499. All rides between November 1, 1988 and October 3 1, 1989 which were publicized via our monthly TWC Newsletter. the Rideline, or the LAW Washington Rides Calendar are eligible.

Because many rides have multiple routes, only you knew for
sure how far you rode, and the Ride Log is the only way we'll
find out. So send us your mileage, then come to our banquet
early in 1990 for an evening of recognition, congratulations,
cheers and applause!

So What Is the L.A.W.?

if you're like most clu members, you have seen the wings

and wheel or three bicyclists logos, or heard of the League

of American Wheeimen, or BICYCLE USA. And like most ‘cyclists, you probably don't know too much about us or ly your club is affihated. Well, let us explain!

The L. 4. W. is a venerable organization-— as you might surmise from our name. We were founded in 1880 as the national organization of bicyclists. One of our first accom- plishments was promoting the good roads movement, which resulted in the paving of roads for bicyclists (and later auto- mobiles). We have also served as the coordinating body for hundreds of bicycle organizations, as the sanctioning body Tor all bicycle racing, and as a political group with influence.

Today, there are a number of specialty organizations and mass market magazines, but the leaque ramains the Mmnational organization of bicyclists. As the national grassroots organization, we: *umite the local clubs and regional federations together, *educate motorists and cyclists as to our rights and responsibilities as vehicle drivers, *work with the media to promote bicycling, *facilitatee the largest volunteer network of bicyclists, *employ the only full-time bicycle advocate working on federal and local legislation and litigation, *offer national Effective Cycling certification for bicycling instructors, and *help American cyclists in many other ways.
