Yelm Metric.Century October 10, 1976
Arriving et the Yelm City Park at 6:15 AM, I found Chairman Chris Buckner and Rosanne fixing breakfast in the early morning darkness, It was Chilly and a drizzly mist we. in the air, Bicycle riders were soon arriving and Lisa Loran and Michele Schmiling were busy getting them registered, tagged, heading them in the right direction and sending them on their waye There was too mech confusion for me, so I soon got back in my truck and drove to Tenino where I set up Check noint j/3.
The centuzy route starts at Yelm, proceeds east sear Lawrence Lake, passes by Vail-careful, you can miss this town easy- and then to Rainier, From here it goes west past Offit Lake and thento Tenino. From Tenino, north past Millersylvania State Perk, ast Clympia and back to Yelm, Exactly 63 miles; 100 kilometers.
At Tenino, I set up my check point at the edge of town, right across whe street from a nice resturant. Jen Colby manned the 2nd check picn’. cut, and Steve Newton the last one at Kelly corner, The first being et tne starting. point. All this overseen oy check point supertintendent Bob Dahike,
The weather soon cleared up and the sun came out. Before long, riders came streaming by. Some stopped and chatted, others barely waited to get their cards punched and +hen hurried on. their wav. They were from 211 nyver. Sex*tls. Rramartcn. Rantan,
