«eebring forth DAFFODILS in Orting to welcome hundreds of bikies to our century} Finally, spring is here}! Finally, after months of frozen feet, three layers of wool clothing, even some snow and ice. Remember the New Year's Day ride? What we may have lacked in mileage this winter, we made up for in camaraderie and tall tales over hot coffee and pizza. There were actually vory few days when weather interfered with an enjoyable ride. Even when it snowed on Thanksgiving morning!

But now it's April, my favorite month, because it's warm, and green, and
4t'g Easter time, and baseball time, and daylight savings time, and Daffodil
Century time. The century is as much fm for us working on it as it is for
the riders. And I'm sure we will all get together with Carol afterwards for a
pizza as we have in the past.

SEATTLE-TO-PORTLAND UPDATE: The Tandem non-Club did some scouting between
Longview and Portland. It was decided that we will take the Oregon side of the:
river (Highway 30) on the Seattle-to-Portland ride. Although the Washington
side is a beaubiful route, the Oregon side is shorter and simpler, with gentler
gradese .

NEW CLUB JERSEYS can now be ordered from me or Gary Singleton. They are
red and yellow cotton~polyester with rear pockets, and have TACHA WHEELMEN
flocked on the back. Very visible! Figure on about three weeks for delivery, |
as each shirt is custom-made by Kucharik, We're getting them at cost, which
is $14.15, payable in advance,

WE AIM TO PLEASE, which is why the questionnaire was sent out in your last newsletter. Please return these to Ruth, along with your suggestions. At the April 15th meeting our guest will by Amy Carlson, the Bicycle Action Committee Chairman of the Cascade Bicycle Club.

Happy Easter and Happy Passover and remember: to prevent road rash, don't wear shorts the first time you ride with cleats, like I did.

REGISTRATION: At The City Park in Orting, Wash. on HWY 162; 40 miles south of Seattle, 9 miles south of Puyallup and 22 miles southeast of Tacoma.

ENTRY FEE: $3.00 for ages 16 and above. $2.50 for ages 15 and under. A SO¢ discount will be given to entries postmarked on or before April 15th. A custom patch designed for this ride this year is awarded to all finishing riders.

FOOD: Entry fee does not include food but there are restaurants, grocery stores and taverns throughout the area expecting you.

BREAKDOWNS: Sagwagons and mechanic's services will be available for emergencies only. Regular prices for parts, labor free.

THE COURSE: Is generally level with a few gently rolling hills the last 20 miles. Riders can again choose between 20, 50 and 100 mile rides.

SUGGESTIONS: Please use the back of your application to tell us how we can make the ride better and more enjoyable for all concerned.
