Well, our Thursday night rides are over now, and this reminds me that eur summer is drawing to a close also. But that means that it's time to head north for the Mt. Vernon Century. If you have never been to one before, make it a point to go. For some reason, this is the most popular ride of i the entire year. Maybe its because the route, which goes through farm- ae land but also includes a state park, is as flat as a pool table and has little traffic. Another reason may be that Mt. Vernon is a reunion, with five or six hundred of our fellow bikies there. It offers a challenge to : the racers who make it a 100 mile time trial, and to the tourist who is a Py attempting his/her first century. For the rest of us, it's a chance to 2

get out on the long smooth roads and ride 50 or 100 miles for the sheer |

joy of riding. And half the fun of Mt. Vernon is the camp-out the night.

it rained all day Saturday, so nobody came up to camp. But the next day

weather deter them from coming to Mt. Vernon.

By the way, there are motel rooms in Mt. Vernon. Also, the ride is a League of American Wheelmen sanctioned National Century, so you get an embroidered patch. The course is open from 7 am to 7 pm.

At the last meeting we voted to donate $25.00 to the Citizens for Returnable

Beverage Containers campaign. This initiative will be on the November

ballot, and if passed will require a deposit on all beer and pop cans and :

A bunch of us got together at the Weldons' house for chocolate chip cookies»™
and to silkscreen the TWC logo on our t-shirts and jerseys and pillow cases ©
and whatever. Harvey Lister did a beautiful job and the design looks very
professional. If there is an enthusiastic response, we may have another
silkscreen party later in the year.

I'm leaving the day after Mt. Vernon for a trip to the Grand Canyon area, so I'll see you on my Olympia Brewery ride when we get back. The ride is one
