I want to express thanks to the club officers who, by their hard work and sacrifice, have made bicycling more enjoyable for the rest of us.

We had a good ride schedule all year thanks to all of the ride leaders who
were willing to lead rides and thanks to Ruth who coordinated the rides and hassled
everyone into leading them.

We were devastated when Bob Branson said he couldn't do the Daffodil Century,
and as much as we miss Bob and his special flair, all of our fears came to nought
because Carol did a wonderful job and once again the Daffodil Century was the
best-run century in the area.

Another tradition of excellence that we mustn't take for granted is the
newsletter. Excellent newsletters have been put out by Bruce Spong, Ruth, Virginia,
Mary Ann, and Karen. Each of them has had their own flair and their own style, but
every one of them has done an excellent job with that most demanding and arduous job.
Karen will be leaving a big pair of shoes for Bruce Rushton to fill. And special
thanks to Bruce Spong for many years' support of the newsletter.

The champion long-term office holder is Steve, who has been Treasurer for five
years, and for a change of pace will be our Vice President this year. During all
the years Steve was Treasurer, it was easy to find the Treasurer and pay our dues,
and the status of our treasury was always available. Steve has always been an
inspiration.

Carol the Secretary, Carol the Daffodil Chairman, Carol the Terror of the Tandem Set ... Carol's impact on the Tacoma Wheelmen has been enormous. Carol has decided a not to be an officer this coming year, but her influence will probably be just as great

Mick, too, has held office for a long time, having been both Touring Captain and
now Bicycle Action Chairman. Mick is one of the people who always gives more than
is asked for.

Gary leaves after four years as Racing Captain. Gary made the Tacoma Wheelmen's
racing team what it is today. Bicycle racing will sorely miss Gary's active leadership.

Fred gave us several good programs during the year and has been interested lately in government grant programs for bicycling. Many thanks for the good programs we've had this year. Let's all get behind Fred and his grant programs this coming year.

A very special thanks goes to Lisa. For a young woman to be President of a bicycle club takes a special kind of courage. Lisa solved all of the problems common ~ to all administrations plus one or two that were unique to this one. She leaves us a strong club eager to tackle the coming year. Thanks, Daffodil Queen Carol, for stepping in when we needed a sec- retary. Good job, Ruth! There were so many good rides this year (es- pecially the brunch rides) I don't know how we will choose the “Favor- ite Ride of the Year." Karen, (I hope you can decipher my handwriting) the newsletters are the best in the Northwest, especially now that they're in living color. Fred, we had real good progrems lest year. I wish more people had come to enjoy them! Good luck, Gary, in 81] your ventures. Pats on the back for Steve and Mick, who were the on'y ones to come beck for more. And finally, "athe boys" to everyone who led rides and gave progrems at our meetings.

1980 shows promise for the club. ‘With energy shortsges end an in-

creasing interest in physical fitness, eveling will become rore and more attractive. And so shoul? our club. But I have great confidence in our new Board. I'm sure you'll] arree that this hunch knows how to make things happen! But we've got to pitch in end help.
