Uur second meeting of Tacoma Wheelmen BAC was last Wednesday night. Thanks for attending Gary, Steve, Matt, Carol, Linda, ohelly, Randy, !arion, Melody andy Harvey. We set down our goals and objectives for the near and not so near @

future, Here they are;

-- Promote bicycle awareness as recreation and transportation-- especially to government decisionmakers. ~~ Develop the position of BAC for Tacoma/Pierce Co, -- Support the development of a Tacoma/Pierce Co. transportation policy which provides for safe bicycle use in all highway projects. ~~ Secure adaquate funding for bicycle projects so assuring a balanced transportation system, -- Coordinate Tacoma Wheelmen BAC with similar groups both locally and through State and National networks. Now we need everyones SUPPORT! We've listed projects that are going to get us off and going. Please, look these over and think about where you'd like to participate--either as a supporter of an activity or as a leader.

As Touring Captain of the Tacoma Wheelmen I'm trying to more rides
and special rides inoorder to bring out more riders. We are starting
saturday rides: which always start at 2 FM and will be easy rides of
less than 10 miles. These are designed for the new rider who does

not feel ready for the regular sunday rides. We are planning at least
one potluck dinner ride a month. Starting this month and running
thru September I hope to have one overnight ride a month. Overnight
rides are fun, moderate paced rides that bring a new dimension to
cycling. If you have never taken a bike camping trip you should plan
to makeoone of these trips, and if you already have you, kmow how much
fun they can be. On Sundays in adition to the regular rides we have
the ride to the rides for those who want to ride further. In May we
will again start the ever popular Thursday night rides, these like the
saturday rides are easy short rides that are great for new riders
and young children.[ am always looking for ride leaders and new ride
ideas. If you have any suggestions or comments give ne a call at

The racing team has been training hard during the preseason and it
looks like we have a really strong team this year. Racing begins this
month with the traditional Issaquah training races. The training races
are tenetively planned to begin on Sunday March 8. Volunteer park
marks the first real race of the season and of course is the first
Sunday in April, Our own race is coming uy fast and we need all the
help we can get. Planning on the race is moving right along, we

have the five mile drive in Point Defiance Park for one day of racing and are talking with the Ruston city council who seem enthusiastie abuot holding the second day's racing in their town, although confirmation and final arrangements have not yet been made,

The team would like to thank the general membership for voting us
money from the general treasury to help pay for us to add Tacoma
Wheelmen on the back of our Jerseys.

Por more information on the teams training and the upcoming races
call 474-6590 and talk to Jim, Mark, or Gary. Also note that we
are starting 9:00 AM Time Trials at the Point for anyone interested
whether you are a racer or not. :
