The NINTH ANNUAL DAFFODIL CLAS-
SIC will be held on April 29, 1984.
CGo-chairmen again this year will be
Harvey Lister and Steve Lay. We are
interested in any new ideas for a
50 mile loop and patch designs.

Right now, we are only a commit-
tee of two, and need your HELP! The
first meeting will be held at Steve

RIDE TO ROY or
THE LONG WAY HOME or
YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE!

Foolishly I asked, "Why will it take all morning to get to Roy for lunch? It*s only an hour and a half from my house." My answer was a-sly smile from the ride leader as we headed off down the street from So. Park

(~ Community Center on a cool Sunday morning in January.

Fifteen of us had decided’ to brave the elements and have lunch at the
famous C&J cafe in Roy, Washington. The sky was clear even if it was a
bit cold yet and it promised to be a good day for riding. We crossed the
freeway at 56th and headed on through Wapato Park towards 84th. The start
Seemed reasonable, we did have to get over to Park Avenue to head on out
straight to Spanaway. WRONG: At 84th we headed West, then South, then
East, then South again. It seemed obvious to me that our fearless leader
wasn't too sure of the way. Eventually we ended up on the Spanaway Loop
Road aiming for 176th. Riding East on 176th we crossed Pacific Avenue to
continue on East. “Wait a minute,” I called, "This isn't the way to Roy.
This road leads to Enumclaw!" Again,: my answer was only a sly smile from
the leader. Shortly we turned South and after crossing the Mountain hi-
way we continued West. Well, at last we were getting - the general vic-
inity. I discovered we were on the back side of the Ft. Lewis Reservation
as we were reconnoitered by a jeepload of soldiers in their BDU's. ( That
is Battle Dress Uniform, NOT brown dirty underwear! ) after I stated the
fact that I hadn*t known this road existed, the ride leader smiled a sly
smile and said, “Ride with the Wheelmen and find a new road each time."

After several hours of riding we reached the booming metropolis of Roy and the world famous C&J Cafe. A hearty lunch and then we were headed on home, stopping at one point to watch some BMX riders as they skidded and slid around curves and leaped over tabletop jumps at a covered dirt track

near the road.
After our return to So. Park, I did have to admit that it had been a

_~ good ride, even if the leader had been a little unsure of the way.
