Since we all received the
gear and fenders we wanted
Christmas,
rain
for
it will be nice to see
everyone upholding their New Year’s
resolution and coming out on
nore
rides (regardless of the weather).
Remember how sore you were last
year when you started riding again
after taking the winter off? The
January schedule is full of nice,
short and easy wintertime rides.
Hope to see you there, your legs and
rear will thank you later. Now is
the time to start working toward
your 1985 ride patches.
The entire 1985 board is very
excited about the upcoming year.
With your help this will be the most
enjoyable year we have ever had.
Jim Davis, Vice president, is
already lining up his calender of
programs for the club meetings.
Look for the topics in the monthly
newsletter, each one promises to be
very interesting. Sue Given,
Treasurer, promises to keep counting
money, but as with all the board
members, she is looking for good
ways to use those funds. Let us
‘know your ideas.
Diane Larrabee, Secretary, is
going to keep everyone informed and
remind them of what they promised to
do. Steve and Phyllis Lay will
again have the ride book. We are
‘something besides
fortunate to have such dedicated
people filling this job. You can
make their job easier by signing up
to lead rides and turning in
sign up sheet if
leader. Dave Grenier,
Editor, will be sniffing out all
interesting and uninteresting
stories. Since bicycles don’t leave
much of a trail to follow, however,
the deadline for anything you want
published is the club meeting. Tom
Miller is again Membership Chairman.
This is a tedious job, well done by
Tom in the past.
This is a good time to get initiated into working on a committee. With less time being spent on the bike, you can spend some of your excess energy working on this years Daffodil Classic committee. We will have the first meeting in January. Call me for details.
This month also holds a once a
year opportunity. Our Banquet on
the 26th will give you a chance to
see your fellow cyclists’ wearing
strange tight
with pockets in

L.A.W. Elects President
The board of Bicycle USA
(League of American Wheelmen) has
elected Seattle’s Dave Shaw as their
new President. :
Shaw replaces Garnett
McDonough, whose term in office has
been described as ’controversial’ by
League members. o
The vote came at the regular
board meeting in Chicago on December
9th.

Christmas Party
This years Christmas party, with over 40 participants, was blessed with cool, dry weather. During the day there was a 20 mile ride through the five mile drive and around the North End, with a stop at the Antique Sandwich Company. Later, Santa gave presents to the kids and candy canes to everyone.
True to a cyclists’ M.0.;
dinner drew the biggest crowd. A
Christmas-light ride followed,
giving everyone a chance to try out
their cold weather gear, and add to
their Christmas wish list if
necessary. Special thanks to the
Davis family for the hard work that
made this pleasurable day a success.

to the banquet. Regular meetings
will resume February i8th.

ANNUAL BANQUET JANUARY 26th
The Tacoma Wheel men’s Club
annual banquet and awards program
will be held at the Lakewood Terrace
Rest. (next to the old Lakewood
Theatre) on Saturday, January 26th.
Cocktails will be available
from 6:30pm, followed by dinner at
7:15pm. The evening will include
the presentation of 1984 mileage and
club events from the past year.
For $10 per person you may
choose either Roast Beef Printaniere
or Roasted Chicken Bordelaise.
